Yesterday, I was able to chat with stp - a former student assistant in math who migrated in the US. He was one of us who collected animes and downloaded softwares/media/audio using dc++ in math and very proficient in programming at linux stuffs. Pareho kaming mahilig magkalikot ng pc at mag-download ng kung ano-ano. Nag-o-online gaming na siya dun, naka-DSL at kumikita ng $$$. Swerte mo mokong.

People here at work are psyching themselves that Monday is the best day there is to start working.

Hahaha. Nice sarcasm there. Well, you either hate or love Mondays. That all depends on how your weekend went. As for me, it was well spent lying and bumming in the house and watching dvds. I watched Torque, Finding Forrester & Paycheck. I also bought Friends Season 9 dvds at Greenhills yesterday.
It was great doing nothing and just lying in the house. I still long for those long vacant hours in UP. Miss those days. Nonetheless, being here isn’t that bad. Kinda lonely sometimes but what the heck. The company will grow into me in the future just like the attachment I have in UP. No need to hurry here. Just taking my time and relaxing. No pressures, no worries. ü

In a few weeks time, jeepney fare will increase by Php1.50! That’s way too much for the usual increase of 50¢ for the last couple of months. Sheesh.
So that will make the minimum fare 5.50. Wow.
Ikot jeeps will be…. 5 pesos! When I was a freshie, Ikot was only 1.25. That was almost 10 years ago.

For the past month and a half, my means of transportation going to work is via the shuttle service near our place. The association has various vans, L300 and modified jeepneys that drive us yuppies to Makati. I shun as much as possible riding those modified jeepneys going here to work. For one, nakakahiyang makita ka na nakasakay sa ka-karag-karag na jeep; secondly, I think my 35 pesos is not well spent if I would just ride those jeeps instead of a van; thirdly, the aircon sucks.
This morning, I was unfortunate to ride one of those jeeps. Ugh. As I was approaching the make-shift garage, I was thinking if I can walk slower so that I will be riding with the next shuttle instead. But the jeepney had just parked there and I was the third passenger to ride. Heck, there is no where else to go but inside the damn jeep.
To my surprise, the interior of the jeep was well modified. The seats were comfy and clean. Parang sofa na napakalambot. Really! No holes or tagpi in the seats. The aircon works well. It was cold inside. I positioned my self midway because that is the best seat if you want to get the breeze (don’t seat near the driver coz the breeze will just pass by you, don’t seat near the door coz by then, ubos na yung lamig). I am pleased to say the least. What really caught my attention is the flooring of the jeep. It’s not your typical stainless rusty steel. It was tiled! Tiles you typically use in your living room and not in your bathroom. Tiles measuring 10 x 10 inches i think (1 square fits my shoes). I can say that the other passengers took notice of this as not a single one complained when they entered the jeep.
For once, I think that I will be looking forward to riding that jeep again.

Yesterday, I finally had my things removed from the math office. I have 3 big boxes of stuffs brought home. Those were the things I was able to collect during my 4 year stay at the department. I will not repeat that stuff collection here in the new office. Aside from the fact that there is no space here, much of those boxed will not be used or seen in the near future (save for my marvel toys). So basically, I will avoid to be a pack rat here in Makati.
I also reformatted Pen’s laptop yesterday. That was my first time to format a laptop. I was apprehensive at first that I might not be able to bring it back to life. Good thing that good ol’ XP packs with lotsa drivers within it’s initial installation. Pen is currently using that laptop as of the moment and hopefully it will run smoothly.
That will be all for today. I have a work to do right now.
The cool air here in the office adds to the difficulty of staying awake and focused. Brrrr… my hands are shaking with the cold. Not to mention I have to pee again and again.

8 am this morning, I did my first conference call in the company. It was a call from Austin, Texas.
As much as I would not like to discuss office works here, this is a news I think that is worth sharing.
(No, not just the phone call itself, but the what was talked about.)

Let’s just say that I’m on my way to where I initially wanted to be. I would be (hopefully) transferred to another team in the future. That would be hard core C++ programming with much Operations Research in the algorithm. I was introduced this morning to one of the pioneers there and told me that this (the ideal team) is a good learning point for me especially if I want to combine OR with programming.
So there.
Kinda excited and nervous at the same time.
Still keeping my fingers crossed.
