Brace yourselves for this story
Last friday, after office, I went to Filbars Glorietta to check if the Superman comics I’m collecting has arrived. And there it was. Superman #206 majestically displayed at the shelves. I asked the counter girl to hand me one but apparently she was busy with a customer who’s seems to be hoarding comics. I saw his comics pile and saw that he is buying 5 comics per issue! That’s a lot of money lying there. And when I looked up to see his face, it was Andrew E..
We got into a conversation which, as far as I can remember, I started. “Dami mong binibili ah. Kaya nauubusan kami eh”. He smiled and told me.. Sila (referring to filbars) sisihin mo. Di nila ibibigay sa yo lahat ng meron sila. Tinatago nila yung iba para pag tumaas presyo, tsaka nila ilalabas. The counter girl snapped back and said that it is not true. (I assumed that Andrew is a regular customer there and the saleslady knew about his antics).
The talk probably lasted a little more than 30 minutes. Mostly about the one thing we have in common - comics. He shared with me what he’s collecting and how he started. He bragged of his comics that he has and that he plans to open a similar business. I am at awe to say the least that we are really having a conversation. I told him my story but skipped the part that I’m downloading comics scans. Haha. That would have been a piracy issue. We are both looking forward to Jim Lee’s Superman rendition and we are both fans of Jim Lee. He gave me some tips on what to look forward to and what to buy. He encouraged me to go to the comics convention and he’ll offer me a rare Batman comics for a lower price. I told him I can’t go but he insisted until he told me that just by showing up, he’ll hand that comics to me for free.
Though I am not a big fan of Andrew E. the rapper, I am amazed with this guy when it comes to comics. He was supportive and encouraging with my new found passion. Before he left, he gave me his mobile number and told me he’ll be looking forward to see me again.
I now own a rare Batman Asylum comics. Thought of asking Andrew to sign it but that’s like asking Jim Lee to sign Andrew’s CD. Hehe. I even have a photo with him. I’ll post it sometime when Pen uploads the pictures.
That’s my chance encounter with Andrew E. I wonder if anyone will envy me?
Anyhow, I also bought some comics at the convention. It did hurt my wallet. OUCH! Buying comics takes a lot of money away from you. That set I bought is currently my prized possession. I got HUSH the complete sereies!
HUSH is the Batman rendition of Jim Lee. Again, this is the main reason why I am hooked with comics right now. You may look it up in my LJ account. I know for sure that I posted it there before.
If I got time next time, I’ll list my current comics collection. It’s not that much but certainly priceless for me. ü
Oh, before I forgot, we were in Baguio last weekend. Pen will tell you the news….
