Jie’s treat

It’s an unwritten rule that bday celebrations among the boys should include something to drink.

Glenn somehow was able to elude his turn this year. It happened so fast that we were not able to clear our schedules.

So Jie took all the load last Friday.

It was the usual meet-drink-go routine. Give it a few more times and we can perfect this set-up for us.

“Jie, saan tayo magkikita?”

“Asa arcade ako dito sa Glorietta.”

“Oks. Kasama ko si Don. Puntahan ka na namin dyan.”

It’s no surprise that Jie spends his idle time trying very hard to make his car drift flawlessly in Battle Gear2.

Don bought his tokens and takes up the empty seat next to Jie. “Tagal na kong di nakakalaro dito.”

I just stood there and watched the 2 slug it out.

I tried to play the arcade sometime back. Believe me, it will take time to make your car do what you like it to do.

My stomach now grumbles. The two are wrapping up the game, time for a stop somewhere before the main agenda.

“Saan tayo kakain?”

“Jollibee na lang.”

“Parksquare.”

“Tara.”

It’s easy to decide with these guys.

En route to Jollibee, we have to figure out where Rex and Glenn are. Jie and I sent an sms to the 2 and the replies were:

Rex: “MRT”.

Glenn: “Order mo ako ng 2pc chicken joy meal.”

Take time to analyze which of the two would arrive first.

I ate the 2pc burger steak meal + an extra rice. Don’t want to fill up the stomach before a drinking spree but I was starving by that time.

Glenn arrived (yeah, he arrived before Rex) even before we started eating. Boy, this dude’s never been late so far. He’s really living up to his mid-year resolutions. Ü

Meals were finished and time flew by but still no Rex. We have a certain patience tolerance factor and it’s about to reach it’s peak.

“Putek, saang MRT ba yun sumakay?”

“Baka pa-north.”

“Baka dun bumaba sa Taft.”

“Alam ba nun andito tayo?”

“Baka naligaw na?”

“Tawagan mo na Jie.”

Jie calls against his own will.

“San ka na Rex?”

“Di ko makita Jollibee.”

“Andito kami sa Parksquare.”

“Kala ko sa loob ng Glorietta. Kanina pa ako pa-ikot-ikot dito.”

“Labas ka dyan. Sa harap ng National Bookstore, gilid ng SM, malapit sa Dusit.”

Jie hanged up. Everyone smiled. Everybody must be thinking the same thing. “Sabi na nga ba…”

Rex finally showed up and we all headed to W.
