RSS Feeds

I got hooked with these RSS Feeds. I got feeds from Slashdot, PCWorld, Mozilla, Movie Reviews & Comic strips - Dilbert, Calvin & Hobbes, Peanuts, Garfield, Ripley’s Believe it or Not, PvP & Penny Arcade.

RSS stands for 2 accepted acronyms: Really Simple Syndication & Rich Site Summary

I have set up an add-on (intraVnews) to Outlook such that feeds will be “mailed” to me. There are other softwares that can read RSS. They are much like browsers but you specify what feeds (sites) they will check for any new updates. I haven’t tried other readers though. RSS are much like your ordinary subscriptions but in this case you are not giving away your email address. You are basically subscribed anonymously. RSS has the advantage of privacy. When you subscribe to a feed, you are effectively telling your software to go and visit a website and grab a page of RSS. You never give out your email address

here’s a steal from one site:

What is RSS?

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a lightweight XML format designed for sharing headlines and other Web content. Think of it as a distributable “What’s New” for your site. Originated by UserLand in 1997 and subsequently used by Netscape to fill channels for Netcenter, RSS has evolved into a popular means of sharing content between sites (including the BBC, CNET, CNN, Disney, Forbes, Motley Fool, Wired, Red Herring, Salon, Slashdot, ZDNet, and more). RSS solves myriad problems webmasters commonly face, such as increasing traffic, and gathering and distributing news. RSS can also be the basis for additional content distribution services.

If you want to try the RSS thing, here is my feedlist:
Calvin & Hobbes
Dilbert
Garfield
Peanuts
Penny Arcade
PvP Online

Mozilla News
Mozillazine

PCWorld Techlog
PCWorld Latest News

Slashdot

Oh, WordPress also happens to generate RSS feeds. There is a link here in my page under META where you can subscribe to my page. BUT, when I tried it, there is a XML parsing error. Apparently, ePinoy’s banner ad at the bottom of the page is causing my error. So no feeds for now from my page.

Spam was working

I got spammed!

When I opened my site today, I got a total of 250+ comment spams in my various blogs. 250 comments! And as soon as I delete them using the mass action functionality, another spam would arrive.

So I head off to support community and searched for blocking spams. And there, I installed a script file to block off commonly used spam words: poker, casino, viagra, etc. So be aware if your comments won’t publish if you used one of those spam words. You can see the full list here.

Funny thing is I was excited to read the comments. I thought ‘Oh my, I got many hits last night, my friends might be giving me the congratulations speech’. Haha. I got 6 hits from my blog yesterday, 5 from the previous one, etc. etc. And when I viewed everything, they are all spams. Laglag puso ko.

Well, anyway, I feel at home and more secure now.

okay i’ve had enough of my b2evo package. i have ported my blog site to WordPress instead.

I just started about 10 minutes ago and the installation was a breeze.

I still have to modify a lot of things here to meet my needs so please, again, bear with me.

Also, this is the last day that my boss isn’t around so I have to make the most out of it. hehehe

++++++++++

Okay, i don’t want to start another entry for the day. Just like to update you guys with the the WordPress package I installed.
Things are so far going great. I was able to make my arrow links work. like this. I was able to migrate all of my GJ entries here. Woopee! I’ll be doing next the calendar and the search function (though I know the features will be rarely used :) ).
Got to go back to reality for the mean time. Thanks for the patience.

++++++++++

Done with the search bar and the calendar tool. Whew! It took me sometime to fix this one.

*Aj pats himself*

Well done for me. I think I found my new home. ü

Next, gotta delete the other files from b2evo from my fileserver.

+++++++++

HAH! Search function actually works! Try to search andrew e. You’ll find my post with a picture with the rapper.

++++++++

I have said this once and I’ll say it again, since this site conforms with the W3C Standards (well, my previous posts may not be strictly valid), it would be best if you use Firefox instead.

It’s time for you to take the web back.
Get Firefox!
